This plug-in enables fast switching between open drawings. When the Drawing Tabs plug-in has been installed, all drawings are displayed on separate tabs at the top of the drawing area. This plug-in was previously made available on Between the Lines, Shaan Hurley's blog, as MDITabs for AutoCAD 2010/2011/2012 (download at http://www.autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/2009/03/autocad-2010-free-bonus-tool-drawing-tabs.html)

MARK GONZALES | July 18, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

I had this loaded before but for some reason my autocad 2014 crashed and now my tabs are gone i tried to re-install with no success. I got this message "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

  • AUTOCAD MEP 2012
Lesther Larrauri | March 26, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

I used to have auto cad 2013, I really like this application, now I'm suing Autocad MEP 2012 and this application doesn't work with this program, I hope you guys make it work with Autocad MEP 2012 someday soon

    Karen Mason | May 14, 2014

Hi Lesther, For the 2012 version, please download the MDITabs.arx file from Shaan Hurley's blog. http://www.autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/2009/03/autocad-2010-free-bonus-tool-drawing-tabs.html)

  • Sorry...
Rick Witt | January 08, 2014 Verified Download (What's this?)

...but I don't get it. Nothing wrong with the app, but AutoCAD 14 has drawing tabs. Why is this different?

    Debashis Dhar | January 08, 2014

Hi Rick, This application is the precursor to the functionality that you see in AutoCAD 2014. It is targeted towards 2013 users only. Thank you.

  • Words cannot describe how much I love this plugin.
Kristin Lindberg | October 29, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

Amazing. Wonderful. I love this! This makes it SO MUCH EASIER to switch between drawings. I mean, ctrl+tab was great, don't get me wrong, but this at-a-glance is awesome! THANK YOU!

  • Amazing...

  • A must have!
Magnus Bergsvik | August 30, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

    Great app.

  • Love it!!
Mike Bouillon | August 14, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

would be nice to have the option to move the tabs, the same way you can move your ribbon tabs to prioritize which is first and which is last.

  • Great!
Juan Clinch | July 29, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

    I can't work without it!!!

  • Very Very thanks.
    김 정민 | April 03, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

its real good when it works

  • No point, pushing CTRL and TAB is far far easier
Samuel Hannah | March 24, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

Sounded good, but i never used it

  • Great App!!
Steve Hill | March 12, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

Great idea for workflow when working with multiple drawings. This definitely should be made as a user on/off selection in the options menu and built with the program.

  • Could be good
Paul Mawson | March 04, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

its real good when it works, Mine has stopped showing up and no repair or reinstall will bring it back. Weird

    Theresa Lowe | December 12, 2013

Me too - I do a ton of custom partial menu writing/loading/unloading and switching workspaces - so I thought that may have kinked it up --- but I still can't manage to get the tabs to reappear... guess I'll just have to wait til we upgrade to 2014 :-/ edit: as a workaround in ACAD2013, I downloaded and installed iDWGtab - and that works fine. Other users have warned that iDWGtab may not be terribly stable, but that's a risk I'll take!

    Richard Taylor | March 21, 2014

Anyone got a fix for this? I've only had this installed for 2 days and it's gone, reinstalled a few times, it's not coming back.

    Karen Mason | May 14, 2014

I'm sorry. We have heard reports of the drawing tabs not displaying but are unable to repro the problem. Many times users have reported that they reappear.

  • Have to settle for this
Matthew Gonzalez | February 07, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

iDwgTab has FAR more features built in. However, I was getting fairly consistent startup crashes with it. another user here couldn't have more than five or six drawings open at a time without AutoCAD crashing until we uninstalled iDwgTab. If iDwgTab gets fixed (I've waited a while for an update already) then I'll probably switch back, until then this app works just fine. As others have said, it could use a few more updates/tweaks, especially knowing what else is out there, but it works.

  • If I had no other solution...
Vitor Antunes | January 14, 2013 Verified Download (What's this?)

If I had no other solution, then I guess this would be a good alternative to the Window menu item. Drawing Tabs mimics the functionality of the Window menu item, although with some improvements. The problem is that it is missing many tab conveniences available in web browsers (ex. close icon per tab, manual sorting of tabs), it doesn't fit into the application nicely (ex. breaks the Ribbon), and better alternatives are available (ex. CAE-Link Drawing Tabs, BuzIcom iDwgTab). This shows a half-assed attempt at making something that should be built into the system. How long do tabs have to exist before AutoCAD realizes that they are the next step after a Window menu item?

  • Gotta have tabs!
Tisha Lane | November 13, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

So glad I get to have tabs. I don't know why tabs aren't native yet.

  • Very cool app but. what about AutoCAD Architecture
David Meza | November 08, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

Its great for vanilla AutoCAD, I'd like to use it on AutoCAD Architecture, this app doesn't work on AA.

  • 4 Stars
Tony Gibbs | October 27, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

Nice app 2 suggested improvements are 1) An X on the Tab 2) The current location reduces my vertical height so I would like to see it being able to be positioned manually by the user

  • Essential app
Tharindu Edirisinghe | October 20, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

Great app that must be incorporated to the main release autocad

  • Always use the Tabs.
mickey cochran | October 18, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

I always use the Mdi tabs since I've found out about it! Great and useful tool. Our company recently upgraded to 2013 and the drawings tabs are still very useful. I don't use Ribbons, just never did like it, but the tabs are on top of the Toolbars. Is there a way to move them back below the toolbars, like the MDI Tabs worked? Please advise...

  • An must have App
    Leif-Are Gundersen | September 21, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

Can't work without this one... Have been using it for years now.

  • Title your review
Chris Freeman | September 14, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

works great, but it would be good to be able to hide the tabs so it doesn't take up as much drawing area

Fernando Carrillo | September 04, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

    A really useful application

  • This is great!
Tommi Ikonen | August 22, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

This is something I have wanted for a long time. The tabs can be closed by right clicking on them and selecting close.

  • Good, but...
Adam Brown | August 09, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

Would be nice if it disappeared when only one drawing is open. Also the X as other's have mentioned

  • useful App
jennifer liu | July 25, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

    Good.

  • Nice App
Alan Millar | July 24, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

This is a really nice app. Good work!

  • Sometimes it does not load
KIRK ARTHUR | July 19, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

I have the .arx inclused in the appload startup suite. Probably not the fault of the .arx, but sometimes it doesnt load and I have to manually load it. A better tab add-on is the iDWGTAB. iDwgTab is very customizable.

  • The Best App
Majid Majid | July 17, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

I really hate to work without tabs. very useful. amazing App

  • Very Useful
    Jean-Philippe Suter | July 13, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

Thanks for this Plug-in. Is it possible to have a function that allows you to enable or disable tabs?

  • Great improvement
Holden Bohm | July 11, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

I was using a copy of "Switch Windows" from the View tab on my Quick Access Toolbar, which was nice, but I still had to find my drawing in the drop-down menu. This app makes my work a lot faster since I often have 10+ drawings open at once. I do agree, that an X button on each tabbed drawing would be nice. Also, being able to move the whole bar to the bottom of model space (similar to Model/Layout tabs) or above the ribbon would be cool.

  • Very good app

  • The Best App
Zbigniew Cempa | June 11, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

I think this feature is most important for AutoCAD. I need only option for change option in taskbar: integration in one window, another is perfect!

  • request
igor go | June 06, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

I can say very useful plug-in. In order to improve this app I ill suggest adding a two features. (1) The X (close button) on each tab (2) tap arrangment (move the tabs on left on on rigth) Thanks for this app.

  • Useful App
Jeff Sutton | May 29, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

Very Good App, Be nice if there was a X on the tab to close the drawing down

  • Great Addition to CAD
Jonathan Delano | April 19, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

Great feature. I can't stand drafting without it. Keep improving it though!

  • Rudimentary
Ken Krupa | April 17, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

There are much better ones available, also free. I've been using iDwgTabs for some years and really like it. Google it. The web site is Korean, but the app is perfect English. (I would hesitate to give an unfavorable review of someone else's app, but since it's from Autodesk I think it warrants it.)

  • David Hutchinson | April 11, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

I have been using the miditab arx file for Tabs up until 2013 which it failed to work on. Thanks autodesk for supplying an equivalent add-on and BTW the ribbon sucks

  • Mike Shick | April 05, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

I've have been using tabs for many years...starting off with DOCBAR by Cadwerx. I could not imagine using CAD without tabs. I was really bummed to see Bryon discontinue his development. Drawing tabs is great...but would love to have some additional features, like save and close single dwg or all dwgs with one click, ability to zoom extents on save and close, ability to open recent files, ability to recall views and layer states via doc bar, sheet sets. hope this utility can be refined a little.

  • DAWN ZUBER | April 04, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

I have been using this plug-in for several years and can't imagine working in AutoCAD without it. I wonder why Autodesk hasn't programmed this feature right into the software.

  • Stefan Hofer | April 02, 2012 Verified Download (What's this?)

I really hate to work without tabs. very useful
