The IFC exporter 2013 contains up-to-date improvements on the default IFC export capabilities of Autodesk® Revit® contributed by Autodesk and our Open Source contributors. While this app is not necessary for IFC support, it is recommended that users that depend on the quality of their IFC export download this app and keep it up-to-date, as new enhancements and defect fixes are added, For more information on IFC, please visit the buildingSMART website (http://buildingsmart.org) or the Revit wiki (http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/enu).

  • not working
    Rob Robert | January 27, 2014

I've tried to download the exporter update. I can't seem to get it to work....at all. we have Revit 2013 (Architecture) and the IFC symbol is "greyed out". what gives?

    Rob Robert | January 27, 2014

alright folks....I have no idea if i was able to edit my review but.... the IFC exporter worked fine. I was doing an incorrect procedure. it appears you can NOT create an IFC file from an RFA (families) file. you need to load the families file into an RVT (project) file and then create that IFC export. Sorry....was my bad. I give the converter a 5 star...it's working fine.

  • Not Exporting Gridlines
    Hurnake Johal | December 12, 2013

Hi Angel, I've downloaded and installed the IFC Exporter due to reviews suggesting that Gridlines can be exported. I've tried exporting my revit model into IFC format but fail to gain any success with gridlines. I've changed/map the IFC Export options for Grids to Ifcgrid, but still no joy. Can you please advise how I can export grids...am I missing something simple? Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.

  • Failed to install newer version
    simo anttilainen | September 27, 2013

After installing I get an error message. "Failed to initialize the add-in "IFCExporterUI" because the assembly ".\ADSK-IFCExporterUI.dll" does not exist." I'm stuck with the older version (Revit IFC Export Alternate UI 2013 app ver 1.13.0.0).

  • Require setting for Units while IFC export.
    Jignesh Mistri | April 18, 2013

Hi Angel, The unit setting is not working correct for Area and Volume while export IFC file from Revit 2013. Suppose ,i have select the Length unit as 'Millimeter', Area unit as 'Square Meter' and Volume unit as 'Cubic Meter'. But when i export the file in IFC 2X3, it is exporting all length unit as 'Millimeter', Area unit as 'Square Millimeter' and Volume unit as 'Cubic Millimeter'. If i change only length unit as 'CentiMeter' in Revit and the Ifc file will export with length unit as 'Centimeter', Area unit as 'Square Centimeter' and Volume unit as 'Cubic Centimeter'. Means its considering the Lengthunit as priority for other related quantitative units for Area and Volume. Which looks Wrong. Actually the IFC (IFC 2X3) file should be export with the same quantitative units adjusted in Revit. Jignesh Mistri

  • problem with the Z-coordinate?
    Rikard Matson | March 11, 2013

experiencing trouble with exports not finding their proper Z-coordinate with this add-in. Automatically changes the Z-coordinate of project base point to 0..

  • Analytical model or architectural model???
    Walter Rustler | January 25, 2013

It is great that such tools are provided. However, it is important to know which view is supported with this interface and if the Structural Analysis Domain and/or the the Architecture Domain is implemented. Most IFC interfaces support only Architecture Domain and not Structural Analysis Domain. Therefore it is difficult or impossible to use IFC files that are including only entities of the Architecture Domain in structural analysis programs. Is there an option to export the analytical model of Revit Structure with this interface?

  • IFC export improved
    Carl Veillette | January 24, 2013

Better then the out-of-the box export.

@Jignesh:You have correctly found a limitation of the Revit 2013 exporter. Unfortunately, 2013 doesn’t really have the API to get around the issue – but Revit 2014 does, so when Revit 2014 is available, consider upgrading and getting the 2014 version of the exporter. @Rikard: We are looking into a way to have better support for project vs. shared coordinates. @Walter: the current exporter only does Architecture Domain - we have not yet done a Structural Analysis export. Note that this app is based on the Open Source IFC export project based in SourceForge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ifcexporter/files/ where you can download the source code itself and even add Structural Analysis support. If you want to join the discussion at the SourceForge site, I would be happy to answer in more detail there and enter a ticket to log your concern. @Jinhoon (and Miles), this exporter seemlessly replaces the IFC export that comes built-in with Revit. As such, it can be difficult to know if it "did anything". As of version 2.5, the version of the exporter is included in the IFC file, so if you do an export of anything and look at the FILE_NAME line, you will see something like: FILE_NAME('FileName.ifc','2013-01-15T08:46:22',(''),(''),'Autodesk Revit 2013','20121003_2115(x64) - Exporter 2.7.0.0 - Alternate UI 1.7.0.0',''); This will let you know what version of the exporter you are using. If you are very interested in finding out where the DLLs live, search for BIM.IFC.addin and IFCExporterUI.addin; they will contain the paths to the DLLs. (Sorry I do not see a way to respond without giving a rating - I chose 3 stars as the middle value.)

  • still not fully dependable
    Mats Romblad | October 25, 2012

Better than the built in exporter. IFC exporter for revit still isn't fully dependable though. Having problems with openings not exported properly and such.

  • IFC Exporter
    Jinhoon Lee | July 25, 2012

How can I begin to use this exporter?? I did the same thing with Miles Walker but no more. I installed but didn't find any new files, folders, etc. Is there anyone who knows how to use it???

  • Miles Walker | March 29, 2012

Installed in RVT2013 Trial _560141e0-8367-44ca-9d52-edf6369f4826_AutodeskIFCExporterforRevit.msi Clicked on Add In just says "IFC Exporter for Revit ver 2.0.1.0 has been installed" Should I be expecting more? If I export IFC via Export\IFC no apparent difference.
